Softball Game Preview: John Champe Knights vs. Freedom Eagles

The John Champe Knights will take on the Freedom Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

John Champe is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Rock Ridge on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-6 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Knights considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Nicole Teetz was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Katilius, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

John Champe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Freedom can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over Osbourn Park.

Riley Picinich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Calleigh Schroeder, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Ashleigh Bronowicz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Freedom's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for John Champe, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
