Louisa County running back and future Michigan Wolverine averaged better than 13 yards per carry.
Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2025 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Savion Hiter of
Louisa County (Mineral) is the 2025 MaxPreps Virginia High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior running back led the Lions to an 11-1 record and Class 4 state quarterfinal appearance.
Despite missing three games, Hiter tallied 110 carries for 1,445 yards and 25 touchdowns. He averaged 13.1 yards per carry and 160.5 yards per game.
In a 34-13 win over Matoaca (Chesterfield) in September, Hiter piled up 261 yards and three touchdowns on just 16 carries.
After missing the final two games of the regular season, Hiter returned with 200 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in a 42-7 win over Caroline (Milford) in the opening round of the playoffs.
As a junior, Hiter rushed for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns after piling up 1,187 yards and 11 scores as a sophomore.
Hiter signed with Michigan earlier this month and is the top-rated running back in the Class of 2026 according to 247Sports. He is the No. 18 player overall and second-rated player in the state.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.
