Preview: Tri-State Christian Huskies vs. Morning Star Academy Mustangs
Tri-State Christian is 4-0 against Morning Star Academy since December of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Tri-State Christian Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Morning Star Academy Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Tri-State Christian kicked off their season on the road on Thursday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by Faith Christian 70-37.
Tri-State Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nick Vannorsdel, who scored 14 points along with 5 steals, and Will Cunningham who scored 8 points along with 11 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Morning Star Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 52-34 bruising from Quad Cities Christian. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Morning Star Academy came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Iowa, while Quad Cities Christian is ranked 29th in Illinois).
Despite their defeat, Morning Star Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isaac Yowell, who scored 15 points, was perhaps the best of all. The matchup was Yowell's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Eli Hughes was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Tri-State Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Morning Star Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Tri-State Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Morning Star Academy in their previous meeting back in January, winning 59-52. Does Tri-State Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Morning Star Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
