Football Game Preview: Nipomo Titans vs. Santa Maria Saints

For the first time this season, Nipomo will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Santa Maria Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Nipomo will be strutting in after a win while Santa Maria will be coming in after a loss.

Nipomo took a loss when they played away from home back in September, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They walked away with a 33-25 victory over Arroyo Grande. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Titans considering their seven-point performance the game before.

Nick Evans had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 181 yards and a pair of TDs, while also catching one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Griffin Groshart, who threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

Nipomo's run defense was locked in: Arroyo Grande could only muster 2.6 yards per carry. The team can thank Jacob Goldsbary for the heroic effort on defense: he. Nipomo's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.

Nipomo's defense didn't let Jacob Kreowski, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Groshart and Travis Barr, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece.

Meanwhile, Santa Maria was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Templeton, falling 56-0. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 951st, while the Eagles are ranked 340th).

The win got Nipomo back to even at 3-3. As for Santa Maria, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Nipomo against Santa Maria in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 47-7 victory. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
