Baseball Recap: Saegertown Has No Trouble Against Cochranton

Saegertown never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Cochranton Cardinals as they made off with a 10-0 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

William Shaffer was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI.

In other batting news, Saegertown let Blake Leslie and Wyatt Burchill run wild. Leslie scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Burchill scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Leslie has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Everett Gardner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Saegertown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cochranton only posted a batting average of .071.

The win made it two in a row for Saegertown and bumps their season record up to 2-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cochranton, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Saegertown will square off against rival Maplewood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Cochranton is set to take on their familiar foe Rocky Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
