Baseball Recap: Centauri Wins Going Away Against Sanford

Centauri won the last time they faced Sanford and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Falcons put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 17-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won four matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Drake Gallardo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Centauri: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Centauri let Parker Buhr and Warren Shelton run wild. Buhr scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Shelton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Shelton a new career-high. Ryder Norton was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Centauri always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Centauri has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Sanford, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Centauri will head out to face off against Bayfield at 11:00 a.m. on the 12th. This will be the Falcons' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Sanford, they have already played their next game, a 25-0 loss against Pagosa Springs on the 8th.
