Softball Recap: Cigarroa's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Juarez-Lincoln, Cigarroa was happy to have turned things around on Friday. Everything went their way against the Martin Tigers as the Cigarroa Toros made off with a 19-0 win. The match marked the Toros' most dominant victory of the season.

The team relied heavily on Rachael Mayo, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Julie Benavides, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Cigarroa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .939. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin only posted an OBP of .222.

With the win, Cigarroa broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7. As for Martin, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Cigarroa will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Roma at 6:00 p.m. Considering Cigarroa has lost 11 straight at home (dating back to last season) and Roma three straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum. As for Martin, they will venture away from home to square off against Rio Grande City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Martin has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
