Baseball Game Preview: Vandegrift Vipers vs. Cedar Ridge Raiders

The Vandegrift Vipers will face off against the Cedar Ridge Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vandegrift's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Cedar Ridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Vandegrift is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Stony Point just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on March 14th. They fell 7-3 to the Tigers. Vipers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on March 14th.

Meanwhile, Cedar Ridge fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Stony Point on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 9-8.

Cedar Ridge got a good showing from Bryson Batton, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Batton a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Kai Rice and Jake Shoemaker did some serious damage despite the final result: Rice scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Shoemaker went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Matthew Fletcher, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Vandegrift's loss dropped their record down to 11-3. As for Cedar Ridge, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1-1 and their overall record down to 12-5-1.
