Basketball Game Preview: Hagerman Pirates vs. Murtaugh Red Devils

The Hagerman Pirates will head out to take on the Murtaugh Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Hagerman lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Sun Valley Community, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Pirates blew past the Cutthroats 82-59 on Monday. The Pirates' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hagerman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Mavencamp, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 17 boards. Mavencamp also posted six blocks, which is notable because the Pirates are undefeated when he posts at least five blocks, but 7-10 otherwise. Jace Leavitt was another key player, shooting 46% from the field to rack up 18 points in addition to seven assists and four steals.

Hagerman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They are 7-2 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Meanwhile, Murtaugh had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pilots 59-24.

Murtaugh's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Hagerman, the win got them back to even at 10-10.

Hagerman came up short against Murtaugh when the teams last played back in January, falling 46-42. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
