Softball Game Preview: Sugar-Salem Diggers vs. Skyline Grizzlies

The Sugar-Salem Diggers will take on the Skyline Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sugar-Salem has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Sugar-Salem is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They lost 15-7 to Wood River.

Seneca Bitter made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylee Robertson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Skyline unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 8-3 to Madison.

Mikayela Lopez put in work no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Lopez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kamree Christensen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Skyline's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Sugar-Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Skyline's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sugar-Salem has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Skyline, though, as they've been averaging 9.9 hits. Given Sugar-Salem's sizable advantage in that area, the Grizzlies will need to find a way to close that gap.
