Softball Recap: University Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Jefferson

University faced Jefferson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Cougars. This was a revenge game for the Hawks: when they faced off against the Cougars on Friday, they had to take a 5-0 loss.

Maddie Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, University's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Masoner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. Kelsey Park also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The win made it two in a row for University and bumps their season record up to 11-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-7 Morgantown (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.4% over those games). As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.

University didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-0 victory against Brighton on the 14th. As for Jefferson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Morgantown on the 12th.
