Lakeland took a 14-run  loss the last time they faced off against Carbondale Area, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Lakeland narrowly escaped with a  win as the  team sidled past Carbondale Area  9-8. This was payback for the Chiefs, who suffered  a  17-3  defeat the last time these two teams met.
 Olivia Lach was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she  struck out seven batters over  seven innings while giving up  four earned  (and four unearned) runs off   eight  hits. Lach was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-3 with one  home run and three  RBI.
 In other batting news,  Kendra Williams was  incredible,  going 2-for-4 with one  home run, four  RBI,  and two  runs. Another player making a difference was  Kamri Naniewicz, who  scored two  runs while going 3-for-4.
 Lakeland was getting hits left and right  and  finished the game having  posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carbondale Area only posted a  batting average of  .273.
Lakeland has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season. As for Carbondale Area,  they are  on  a  seven-game losing streak  (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
 Looking ahead, Lakeland will face off against Blue Ridge at 4:30  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Carbondale Area, they will take on Holy Cross at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday.
