Softball Recap: St. Pius X Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Atrisco Heritage Academy

On Wednesday, St. Pius X faced Atrisco Heritage Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The St. Pius X Sartans fell just short of the Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars by a score of 14-13. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jordan Chavez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Diamor Ibarra-Villegas, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.

St. Pius X's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Looking ahead, St. Pius X will host Rio Grande at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Pius X has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Atrisco Heritage Academy, they will take on La Cueva in a tournament on Thursday. Atrisco Heritage Academy knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully La Cueva likes a good challenge.
