Softball Recap: North Henderson Knights vs. Hendersonville Bearcats
North Henderson had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it four. They lost 13-6 to the Hendersonville Bearcats. The Knights were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bearcats earlier this season, when they won 20-4.
Kennedy Drake was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mollie Spear, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Hendersonville, their record now sits at 6-10. Considering they have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Hendersonville's side, Mia Kotowski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Kotowski a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Hendersonville let Ruby Fisher and Mary Shelton run wild. Fisher went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Shelton went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI Shelton has posted since back in May of 2024. Alysa Williams was another key player, getting on base in four of her six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
North Henderson and Hendersonville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. The Knights will take on Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (358 vs. 72). Meanwhile, Hendersonville (ranked 327th) will meet East Rutherford (ranked 93rd) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
