Baseball Game Preview: Delavan Panthers vs. Putnam County Panthers

Delavan are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Putnam County at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Delavan made easy work of Oregon and carried off a 9-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Braden Arrenholz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Trace Kight-Garlisch was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Colton Miller was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Tuesday. Putnam County beat Gardner-South Wilmington by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-5. The win continues a trend for Putnam County in their matchups with Gardner-South Wilmington: they've now won eight in a row.

Delavan's record is now 2-0. As for Putnam County, their record now sits at an identical 2-0.

Delavan took their victory against Putnam County when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Delavan since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
