Baseball Game Preview: Yough Cougars vs. Freeport Yellowjackets

Yough hasn't had much luck against Freeport recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Yellowjackets at 4:15 p.m.

Yough is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game dating back to last season on Wednesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Ligonier Valley. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by just one run.

John S made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Tyler B also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Freeport won against Knoch last Wednesday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets put the hurt on Burrell with a sharp 13-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Freeport has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Yough, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Yough might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Freeport in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
