Softball Recap: Lassen Takes a Loss

If Lassen was feeling good fresh off their 15-1 takedown of Spring Creek on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Dayton Dust Devils by a score of 3-1 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Grizzlies have suffered since May 24, 2025.

Shay Cain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lassen saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Delilah Delgado, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Lassen's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Dayton, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 12-12 record.

Looking ahead, Lassen will take on Yreka at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Miners have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Dayton, they will head out on the road to square off against Spring Creek at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.74 runs per game on average), something the Dust Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
