Baseball Recap: Western Wayne Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Dallas, Western Wayne was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the Wyoming Area Warriors by a score of 6-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Damian Glackin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Western Wayne got a great performance from Jamison Mccoullum as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Mccoullum a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, Lance Maiocco and Ethan Lamberton did most of the damage at the plate: Maiocco went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Lamberton went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Western Wayne is undefeated when Maiocco posts two or more runs, but 1-8 otherwise. Vinny Baldini was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Western Wayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wyoming Area only posted a batting average of .120.

Western Wayne's win bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Wyoming Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Wayne will challenge Lakeland at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Chiefs at the right time seeing as the Chiefs are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Wyoming Area, they will face off against MMI Preparatory School at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Wyoming Area's pitchers better be ready for this one: MMI Preparatory School has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
