Basketball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Jefferson's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Jefferson had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-39 win over the Ennis Mustangs on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since December 9, 2023.

Jefferson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cameron Toney, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points and eight boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Toney has scored at least a third of Jefferson's points. Ryian Eveland was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 13 rebounds.

Jefferson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season. Ennis' loss dropped their record down to 20-4-1.

Looking ahead, Jefferson will take on Loyola-Sacred Heart in a tournament on Thursday. Loyola-Sacred Heart knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Jefferson likes a good challenge. Ennis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
