Preview: Covenant Christian Cougars vs. Trinity Christian Lions

The Covenant Christian Cougars are on the road again on Friday and plays the Trinity Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Covenant Christian strolled past Pantego Christian with points to spare, taking the game 69-54. Given Covenant Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Pantego Christian is ranked 723rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Covenant Christian can attribute much of their success to AJ Guerra, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, and Aaron Turner, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Turner has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Hill, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Trinity Christian had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.8 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Saturday. They took down Lake Country Christian 81-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Covenant Christian's win bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Trinity Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 29-5 record this season.

Covenant Christian was dealt a bruising 83-40 loss at the hands of Trinity Christian in their previous meeting back in January. Can Covenant Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
