Baseball Game Preview: Salinas Cowboys vs. Soledad Aztecs

Salinas and Soledad are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cowboys will host the Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Soledad took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Salinas, who comes in off a win.

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Salinas and Monterey, and Salinas kept the tradition alive. The Cowboys never let the Dores get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Saturday.

Quentin Dominguez was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Salinas' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of J.T. Lopez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Soledad's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hollister on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Aztecs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Salinas has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Soledad, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Everything went Salinas' way against Soledad in their previous matchup back in March, as Salinas made off with a 13-2 victory. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
