Basketball Recap: Western Brown Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fayetteville-Perry, Western Brown was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They escaped with a win against the Batavia Bulldogs by the margin of a single free throw, 56-55. The Broncos have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Western Brown found their leader in sophomore Madilyn Ruby, who almost dropped a double-double on 27 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ruby has scored all season. Another player making a difference was J Jenike, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points and four steals.

Western Brown smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Western Brown is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Batavia, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Western Brown will welcome Goshen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Batavia, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ursuline Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Batavia has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 184 points over their last three games.
