Football Game Preview: Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons vs. South Davidson Wildcats

The Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy Gryphons are taking a road trip to take on the South Davidson Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy 43-0. Considering the Gryphons have won four games by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Max Sutton and Kenyon 'Bokey' Surratt. Surratt also defended three defended passes, which is notable because Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy is 2-1 when he posts at least three defended passes, but 3-5 otherwise.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Davidson, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in October. They enjoyed a cozy 27-8 win over Rosman on Friday.

Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy better focus on containing George Nilsen IV and Gage Underwood as the pair were huge in South Davidson's win. Nilsen IV rushed for 115 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, while Underwood rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing yards Underwood has posted since back in September.

South Davidson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 192 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

South Davidson pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.7 points over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
