Basketball Recap: Eunice Comes Up Short

Eunice lost to Jal back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cardinals lost to the Panthers at home by a 34-18 margin. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

It was another big night for Mayrin Nieto, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards for Jal. Nieto is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Itzel Ramirez, who posted no points and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Eunice and nudges their season record down to 11-11. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 17-6 Texico (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69% over those games). As for Jal, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Eunice didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-14 defeat against Tatum on the 20th. As for Jal, they have also already played their next game, a 61-30 loss against Texico on the 20th.
