Basketball Recap: Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology Victorious

Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology posted their closest win since December 9, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past the West Cabarrus Wolverines 55-52. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Wolverines are ranked 317th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Matthew Tyler produced another solid effort shooting 45% from the field en route to 24 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the most points he has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Goodman, who had six points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology now has a winning record of 3-2. As for West Cabarrus, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology and North Mecklenburg will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for West Cabarrus, they have already played their next game, a 57-56 victory against Mount Pleasant on the 13th.
