The Central Cambria Red Devils are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against the Philipsburg-Osceola Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Central Cambria barely beat Blacklick Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Central Cambria put the hurt on Blacklick Valley with a sharp 12-1 win last Wednesday. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
JD Brouse made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Brouse was even better at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Central Cambria got a massive performance out of Blake Coposky, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Grady Snyder was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Philipsburg-Osceola hadn't done well against Hollidaysburg recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Philipsburg-Osceola was the clear victor by a 13-5 margin over Hollidaysburg. The win was just business as usual for the Mountaineers, who after four games remain undefeated this season.
Like Central Cambria, Philipsburg-Osceola also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Yoder. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Yoder gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Philipsburg-Osceola let Parker Lamb and Sam McDonald run wild. Lamb went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double, while McDonald scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-5. What's more, McDonald posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zac Wagner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Central Cambria's record is now 2-0. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, their record now sits at 4-0.
Central Cambria came up short against Philipsburg-Osceola in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 6-2. Can Central Cambria avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
