Baseball Recap: Napa Comes Up Short

Napa had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-8-1 to make it 13. They fell 8-4 to the Petaluma Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on Tuesday.

Rocco Capponi made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

As for Petaluma, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Petaluma's side, the team relied heavily on Ben Vollmer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Vollmer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Wirtz, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Napa will head out to square off against Justin-Siena at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Petaluma, they will be playing at home against Archie Williams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
