Basketball Recap: Luling Eagles vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

Luling was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs, falling 62-38. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 58-24 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Nixon-Smiley was led to victory by Janaelyn White and Grace Gomez. White went 5 for 11 en route to 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds, while Gomez went 5 of 12 on her way to 11 points and three steals. That's the most points Gomez has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Janice White, who posted eight points and five boards.

Luling's defeat dropped their record down to 8-20. As for Nixon-Smiley, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-17.

Luling will face off against Poth at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Poth will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Luling surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nixon-Smiley, they will venture away from home to challenge Karnes City at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
