Mitchell and River Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will welcome the Royal Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
River Ridge will be up against a hot Mitchell squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Mustangs blew past Lecanto 11-1 on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Savannah Toukatly was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MacKenzie Tucker, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Madyson Whitaker, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Mitchell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, River Ridge gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Academy at the Lakes as they made off with a 17-7 victory. With that win, the Royal Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Ailynn Hauschen was a standout: she fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Vozdecky, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for River Ridge, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
River Ridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mitchell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for River Ridge, though, as they've only averaged .259. Will they be able to contain Mitchell's hitters?
Mitchell took their victory against River Ridge when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Royal Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
