Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Raiders vs. Troy Warriors

The Sonora Raiders will challenge the Troy Warriors at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Sonora 1.6, Troy 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Sonora hadn't beaten Sunny Hills on the road since March 11, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. Sonora walked away with a 5-2 win over Sunny Hills. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by exactly three runs.

Caleb Orr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anthony Abad was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Luke Crowder, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Troy waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. The one-run effort marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Troy pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sonora, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Sonora skirted past Troy 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Sonora repeat their success, or does Troy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
