Basketball Recap: East Lake Falls Short of Sickles in the Playoffs

East Lake and Sickles squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but East Lake had to settle for second. They took a 75-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sickles Gryphons. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gryphons earlier this season, when they won 81-61.

East Lake's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Bryant's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Greg Samuels, who went 9 of 20 to rack up 22 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sickles to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chase Weismiller, who went 7 for 12 en route to 20 points. Weismiller is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Eddy Hernandez was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 14 boards.

East Lake's loss dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Sickles, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-8.

While East Lake had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
