Baseball Recap: Venice Takes Down Sylmar in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Venice had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Sylmar Spartans 9-8. Winning may never get old, but the Gondoliers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

The team relied heavily on Canon King, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Lippman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Venice was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sylmar only posted a batting average of .312.

Venice's record now sits at 28-2. As for Sylmar, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-7.

Looking ahead, Venice will square off against El Camino Real on Saturday. The Royals' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Gondoliers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Sylmar does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
