Baseball Recap: Stewarts Creek Takes a Loss

The Stewarts Creek Red Hawks didn't have quite enough to beat the Smith County Owls on Saturday and fell 5-3.

Stewarts Creek got a good showing from Ben Bryant, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Bryant has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Stewarts Creek saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Young, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Stewarts Creek has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-14 record this season. As for Smith County, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-4.

Coming up, Stewarts Creek is taking a road trip to challenge Cookeville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season. As for Smith County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jackson County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Owls will no doubt try to take advantage of.
