Basketball Game Preview: Washburn Pirates vs. Cosby Eagles

Washburn and Cosby are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2021, but not for long. Having just played yesterday, the Washburn Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Cosby Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Washburn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Washburn lost to Cumberland Gap on the road by a 52-36 margin. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

The losing side was boosted by Hannah Williams, who went 8 for 19 en route to 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ebany Hill, who posted four points and six steals.

Meanwhile, Cosby didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Pigeon Forge on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 58-53 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Cosby has also been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.8 points per game. As for Washburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.

Washburn beat Cosby 46-36 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Does Washburn have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cosby turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
