Basketball Recap: Wilcox-Hildreth Comes Up Short

Wilcox-Hildreth was the 39-35 winner over Red Cloud when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons fell 46-34 to the Red Cloud Warriors on Tuesday. The loss leaves the Falcons without a win on the season.

Despite the defeat, Wilcox-Hildreth saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaleb Johnson dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. Johnson is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games.

Red Cloud's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Conner Rust, who posted 17 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Rust a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Bolin, who had eight points and six steals.

Wilcox-Hildreth's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Red Cloud, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilcox-Hildreth will take on Arapahoe in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wilcox-Hildreth is facing Arapahoe at the right time seeing as Arapahoe is stuck on a five-game losing streak. Red Cloud and Shelton will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
