Softball Recap: Minisink Valley Comes Up Short at Home Against John Jay

Minisink Valley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the John Jay Patriots by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost three in a row.

Emily Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Lyla LaBarbera was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

The victory got John Jay back to even at 1-1.

Coming up, Minisink Valley will host Valley Central at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The game will give the Warriors their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for John Jay, they will square off against Arlington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
