Football Recap: Breydon Trithart and Jordan Rutan Lead the Defense for Punxsutawney Win

After losing to Clearfield the last time they met, Punxsutawney decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Chucks blew past the Bison 28-8 on Friday. The Chucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Maddox Hetrick had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 128 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Those 128 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Beau Thomas was another key player, picking up 42 receiving yards and three scores.

Punxsutawney's run defense was locked in: Clearfield could only muster two yards per carry. The team can thank Thomas for the heroic effort on defense: he. Punxsutawney's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.2.

Punxsutawney's defense also made the game a nightmare for the opposing QB, racking up seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Breydon Trithart and Jordan Rutan, who racked up four sacks between them. Trithart also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight.

The victory made it two in a row for Punxsutawney and bumps their season record up to 10-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.0 points over those games. As for Clearfield, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Looking ahead, Punxsutawney will take on Oil City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Oilers' defense has only allowed 12.1 points per game this season, so the Chucks' offense will have their work cut out for them. Clearfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
