Basketball Recap: Maddie Bennett and Addison Burright Secure Win for Willcox

While Willcox didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They enjoyed a cozy 56-40 win over the Queen Creek Bulldogs on Friday. Given the Cowboys' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 203rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willcox was led to victory by Addison Burright and Maddie Bennett. Burright dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards, while Bennett dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Those 21 points gave Burright a new career-high. Kennedy Ebert was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Willcox smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 34 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Queen Creek's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ivanna Rosales, who posted ten points, and Samarah Garduno, who had six points. Another player making a difference was Violette Kahl, who put up five points.

Willcox has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.7 points. As for Queen Creek, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Willcox didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 72-39 loss against North on the 28th. As for Queen Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 38-27 victory against Camelback on the 28th.
