Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Yellow Jackets vs. Northwest Whitfield Bruins

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets will take on the Northwest Whitfield Bruins at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Northwest Whitfield will be up against a hot Calhoun squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. Calhoun was the clear victor by a 71-48 margin over Heritage on Tuesday. Given the Yellow Jackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Generals are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jaxon Moore was a one-man wrecking crew for Calhoun as he went 8 of 14 en route to 20 points and seven assists. Those 20 points gave Moore a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trace Hawkins, who posted eight points in addition to nine assists and three steals.

Moore wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Calhoun was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest Whitfield). They claimed a resounding 80-45 win over Lookout Valley. The Bruins pushed the score to 68-31 by the end of the third, a deficit the Yellowjackets cut but never quite recovered from.

Northwest Whitfield's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Calhoun, they have also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.

Calhoun was able to grind out a solid win over Northwest Whitfield in their previous meeting on January 7th, winning 42-35. Does Calhoun have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northwest Whitfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
