League recap: Carlsbad's offense goes off in victory

Carlsbad led 5A District 4 in scoring this week after putting up 57 points on Hobbs. Dillion Caddell ran for 151 yards and caught two passes for 13 yards in the win.

The Cavemen's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Rodney Holcomb threw for 177 yards and Josh Miller had 79 yards receiving. Marcus Arrington helped Carlsbad's passing attack out by catching five balls for 52 yards.

Carlsbad's Holcomb and Tyler Hyden have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Holcomb has thrown for 1513 yards this season, while Hyden, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 30 catches for 475 yards. Kamal Cass from Clovis leads the league in rushing with 1563 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between the Wildcats and Ron Arrington's team. Clovis comes into the matchup ranked 16th in the state, while the Cavemen ranks 14th.

There should be lots of points scored when Eric Roanhaus' team and Carlsbad face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wildcats comes in having scored 310 this season, while the Cavemen have scored 276.
