Basketball Recap: Shepherd Takes a Loss

Shepherd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 70-42 loss at the hands of the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks. The Pirates were down 56-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Shepherd saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Brayden White dropped a double-double with 31 points and 22 boards. White is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 17 games he's played.

Hardin-Jefferson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samuel Jones led the charge by going 6 for 8 en route to 12 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jhavon Williams, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 10 points along with six rebounds and five steals.

Shepherd's loss dropped their record down to 16-19. As for Hardin-Jefferson, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-16.

Shepherd does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Hardin-Jefferson, they have already played their next matchup, a 65-59 defeat against Tarkington on the 11th.
