Football Recap: Alexander Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Javi Trejo and Gael Rubio

Alexander was the 45-42 winner over Veterans Memorial when they last played one another back in September of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 20-17 on Friday. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Chargers 10-3 in the first quarter.

Despite the defeat, Alexander had strong showings from Gael Rubio, who rushed for 123 yards and one score, and Javi Trejo, who rushed for 93 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

Cesar Belmontes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Veterans Memorial, rushing for 212 yards and one TD while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Those 212 rushing yards gave Belmontes a new career-high. Veterans Memorial also relied on Manny Escobedo, who's 47-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game.

Alexander's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Veterans Memorial, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Alexander didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 23-16 victory against United South on the 26th. As for Veterans Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 48-7 win against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on the 26th.
