Recap: Belfry Pirates vs. Whitley County Colonels
The Belfry Pirates lost against the Whitley County Colonels back in December of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Belfry took a serious blow against Whitley County, falling 80-48. While losing is never fun, Belfry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Whitley County is ranked 38th).
Several Pirates players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was David Michael Hagy, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Hagy set a new season high mark in steals with two. Another player making a difference was Makaden Maynard, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Belfry has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Whitley County, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belfry will finish 2023 at home by hosting Holmes at 8:05 p.m. on Thursday. Holmes is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Whitley County will finish 2023 at home by hosting South-Doyle at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
