Basketball Recap: Marion Sets Scoring Season-High Against East Clarendon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marion). They blew past the East Clarendon Wolverines 73-47 on Friday. Given the Swamp Foxes' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Wolverines are ranked 226th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Marion was led to victory by Charles White Jr and Jameir Legette. White Jr almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, while Legette almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Irenaeus Gurley was another key player, putting up eight points.

Marion smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Marion, bringing their record for this year to 8-10. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for East Clarendon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Marion will square off against Loris at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Loris knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Marion likes a good challenge. East Clarendon has already played their next matchup (against Lake City), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
