Softball Recap: Maricopa Takes a Loss

Maricopa dropped down to 3-2 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Red Mountain Mountain Lions, falling 12-1. The Rams were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matchups prior), but the Mountain Lions' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Red Mountain, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Red Mountain's part, they got a massive performance out of Zoe Clark, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Clark has posted since back in March of 2025. Gracie-Lin Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Looking ahead, Maricopa will take on Bishop Gorman at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gaels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.83 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Red Mountain, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Dobson at 3:45 p.m. on the 24th.
