National Signing Day is a special day for all high school athletes, especially for the 2012 Jenks High School Trojans football team. The 8th Annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard recognized the Trojans for their outstanding performance during the 2012 football season at the school's National Signing Day assembly.

One of 50 schools recognized, the Jenks football team finished No. 27 nationally out of more than 16,000 schools according to the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings. After a demolition of long-time rival Union of Tulsa in the state semifinals, they went on to take the state championship title by beating Norman North with a 55-20 win. The Trojans record of 12-2 led them to the school's 13th state crown and first since 2007 when they ended with a 13-1 record.

Proud parents stood behind the seniors of the Trojans football team as students, athletes, coaches and teachers filled the bleachers from wall-to-wall in the Frank Herrald gym. As we looked around at the crowd, we could feel a great sense of pride in the community for the team's outstanding performance.

One of the team's seniors Jordan Smallwood said, "It was an honor playing for coach Trimble," and he described being recognized by MaxPreps and the Army National Guard as a great honor as well.

Parents and coaches approached Sergeant First Class Jason Vaneck of the Oklahoma Army National Guard with gratitude and appreciation for presenting head coach Allan Trimble and the Trojan football team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy. Media outlets such as The Oklahoman and local television stations Channel 6, 2NEWS and NBC5 were all on-site to capture the day's excitement.

As the ceremony came to an end, the seniors on the team cherished those few last minutes of what it felt like to be interviewed, honored and respected by the local community. While their season's legacy, which includes some of the most memorable moments on the field, will continue to live on, the ‘Minuteman' trophy and Nationally Ranked banner will serve as a reminder of those accomplishments and give the future classes something to aspire towards.
