Basketball Game Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. The Vanguard School Coursers

Lamar hasn't had much luck against The Vanguard School recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lamar Thunder will be playing in front of their home fans against The Vanguard School Coursers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

The Vanguard School will be up against a hot Lamar squad: the team just extended their winning streak to eight. Lamar really took it to Alamosa for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-19 win. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 26-4.

Lamar found their leader in sophomore Jacob Dunning, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points along with six boards and three steals. The contest was Dunning's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alex Williams, who posted six points and 13 rebounds.

Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, The Vanguard School had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Demons 75-41.

The Vanguard School has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.2 points per game. As for Lamar, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2.
