Baseball Recap: Cary Academy Wins Going Away Against Durham Academy

Cary Academy not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 15, 2024. Everything went their way against the Durham Academy Cavaliers as Cary Academy made off with a 12-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-7 last Tuesday.

Oliver Swartz made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Everett Cagle, who scored two runs and stole a base. Andrew Wessels was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Cary Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cary Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Durham Academy, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Cary Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ravenscroft at 5:00 p.m. on April 8. As for Durham Academy, they will challenge Covenant Day at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Covenant Day will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Durham Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
