Sunray is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Spearman Lynx will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. Sunray has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with six straight defeats, while Spearman will come in with three straight wins.
It was a proper cat-fight when Sunray duked it out with Canadian last Friday. The Bobcats took a blow against the Wildcats, falling 69-20. The Bobcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 62-6.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spearman). They blew past Shamrock, posting a 68-14 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Spearman's win came from a few key players Sunray will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gael Perez, who rushed for 80 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Hudson Swan was another key player, gaining 82 total yards and a touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Spearman proved: they limited Shamrock to a paltry 1.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Vlad Caro for the heroic effort on defense: he. Spearman didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.3.
Spearman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Landon Sonnenberg led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Alex Bonilla got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Spearman now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Sunray, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Sunray against Spearman when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 47-6 victory. Do the Bobcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lynx turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
