Basketball Recap: Ryan White's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sutton over Hopedale

Sutton easily dispatched Douglas last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Sutton Sammies fell just short of the Hopedale Blue Raiders by a score of 53-50 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sammies of the 36-28 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Sutton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan White, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in points. Cam Benedict was another key player, putting up ten points.

Hopedale's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Patrick Madden, who put up 20 points. Madden's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nathan Rutkowski, who had 13 points.

Sutton has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Hopedale, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sutton will welcome Blackstone-Millville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hopedale, they will host Nipmuc Regional at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nipmuc Regional is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.6 points per game this season.
